Misty Kalkofen
New Business Development/Advocacy
Misty Kalkofen has spent the past twenty years honing her craft and her palate and has earned a reputation as one of Boston’s foremost authorities on cocktail history and culture. From cocktail development and menu creation to executive marketing management she has dedicated her professional life to honing her skills in the various aspects of the hospitality industry.
In 1996, Kalkofen began her seventeen-year tenure behind the bar in Cambridge, MA. From the B-Side Lounge, Boston’s first beverage program dedicated to fresh ingredients and classic cocktails, to Barbara Lynch’s pioneering and award-winning beverage program Drink, Kalkofen has been a leader within the local and national cocktail communities.
In 2013, she decided to focus in on her love of Agave joining the team at Del Maguey Single Village Mezcal. Working closely with all points of the distribution chain, Kalkofen focused on increased sales through category and brand specific education. Acting as a cultural liaison between the Del Maguey family in Oaxaca and the US hospitality community, Kalkofen managed the Del Maguey loyalty program that provides immersive educational experiences for the trade and Del Maguey’s distributor partners. For her dedicated work with Del Maguey Misty won Best American Brand Ambassador at Tales of the Cocktail in 2017.
A published author, Kalkofen released her first book, Drinking Like ladies, with co-author Kirsten Amann in 2018. Kalkofen and Amann co-founded the Boston chapter of Ladies United for the Preservation of the Endangered Cocktail, fulfilling her desire to “cocktail for a cause.” Rooted in the belief that everyone loves a good drink, people like to do good things, and broads can accomplish anything, the ladies of LUPEC have raised over $40,000 for local Boston women’s charities by throwing the best parties in town.
